About The Event
Metamorphoses by Mary Zimmerman is a visually stunning and emotionally resonant adaptation of Ovid’s ancient myths, brought to life through a series of interconnected stories about transformation. Set around a central pool of water, the play fluidly weaves together tales of love, loss, desire, and redemption, highlighting the timeless nature of human experience. Characters shift between forms—human to animal, mortal to divine—revealing how change is both inevitable and essential. Zimmerman’s lyrical language and inventive staging create a dreamlike atmosphere, allowing audiences to move seamlessly between humor and heartbreak. From the tragic fate of Orpheus and Eurydice to the poignant story of King Midas, each vignette reflects on the power of transformation in shaping identity and meaning. Ultimately, Metamorphoses invites viewers to consider how change, whether chosen or forced, defines the essence of being human.
