About The Event
Emilia by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm is a bold and electrifying reimagining of the life of Emilia Bassano, a woman often overlooked by history yet believed by some to have inspired the works of William Shakespeare. Told through a dynamic, all-female cast, the play blends poetry, music, and direct address to explore themes of gender, power, and creative ownership. Emilia’s journey unfolds as one of resilience and defiance, challenging the societal constraints placed upon women in the Elizabethan era. Malcolm’s script gives voice to silenced perspectives, transforming historical narrative into a contemporary call for equality and recognition. Fierce, witty, and unapologetically modern, Emilia celebrates women’s stories across time, urging audiences to question who gets remembered—and who has been erased.
