About The Event
Blood Wedding is about forbidden love between two people from rival factions/families. Adapted from Lorca’s 1933 play, written amidst political extremism and calls for change and revolution, this new production is timely. It positions the performance into the here and now - at this fragile time in the world.
At its heart, Blood Wedding is about the personal effects of war, and the struggles of women to find their voice in a male dominated society. It pits tribe against tribe. Class against class. All to a devastating end.
Using projections, a searing/atmospheric soundscape, and heightened physicality, the work questions traditions, boundaries, gender, morality, human savagery, freedom, the power of love - and the power of the ‘knife’. Themes that resonate today as loudly as they did back in Lorca’s time.
